March Repairs: Bookcase Legs, Burning Jackets, and a Musical Christmas Tree
Our March 28th repair café saw a great mix of items come through the doors of Tregony Village Hall. Textiles, electronics, mechanical fixes, and even a ceramic bird: it was a proper mixed bag.
Textiles
Two coats, two pairs of trousers, a cardigan, and a satchel all came in for attention. Our textile repairers work on everything from hems and linings to zips and patches — and sometimes items go home with a repairer for finishing off after the session.
Electronics and Electrical
The electrical table had a busy afternoon. A lamp and an air fryer both left repaired, and the printer — which required significant work — was also successfully fixed.
Not everything could be fixed: one lawnmower couldn’t be repaired, a CD player was beyond help on the day, and a second lawnmower was only partly resolved. A sound system, hi-fi, vacuum cleaner, and bedside lamp also came in. One visitor whose CD player couldn’t be fixed wrote on their feedback form: “Everyone was so helpful.”
Mechanical and Other
A musical Christmas tree decoration came in for repair, along with a camping gas cooker, a leather belt, and a bookcase.
A ceramic bird figurine was successfully repaired — a delicate job well suited to our craft repairer.
Feedback
Eight visitors filled in feedback forms. The Roseland Magazine continues to be the main way people discover us, with Radio Cornwall and word of mouth also doing their part. Comments included “Wonderful,” “Jolly good thing this,” and several “Very happy” verdicts.
Looking Ahead
Our next repair café is on Saturday, 26th April, 1-3pm at Tregony Village Hall. Whether it’s a dodgy zip, a temperamental appliance, or a beloved ornament that’s seen better days, bring it along and we’ll see what we can do. And if you’d like to volunteer — as a repairer, a tea-maker, or anything in between — we’d love to hear from you.
